The Way Forward for Rovers
The Gas Trust Board welcomes the vision for the future direction of Bristol Rovers that was published in the Evening Post on Friday. We would also like to thank Mike Turl, Kevin Spencer, Colin Williams and Kim Stuckey for their invitation to discuss the proposals and provide our input and we look forward to taking up this offer in the near future.

Acting Trust chair Gary Marks said: “In our recent statement on events at Rovers, we stated our view that Bristol Rovers simply cannot continue to operate as it has been doing if there is to be a club for future generations to support.

“A new direction needs to be taken and the proposals published in the Evening Post provide a very clear set of objectives for the way forward for the club.

“We are heartened by the fact that the proposals embrace the Trust’s key principles of effective supporter involvement in the running of the club and strong links with the local community and we look forward to engaging in the consultation process and helping them to develop the outline vision”.

The Trust also believes that the Board of Bristol Rovers Football Club have a duty to fully consider any proposal that provides the club with a potential cash injection and a potential way out of the trough that BRFC currently finds itself in. We were therefore disappointed to read the comments of chairman Geoff Dunford in the Evening Post on Friday, which seemed to veto the proposal without even seeing it. We firmly believe that Bristol Rovers FC could benefit from the knowledge and ideas behind the proposal and call upon the Chairman and his fellow Board members to meet with the four ex-Directors in order to discuss the proposals and see if a mutually agreeable way forward can be found.

Additionally, the Trust would welcome the opportunity of discussing the plans that the Board has for the future of Bristol Rovers FC with them. We have been invited to sit down with the four former directors and we believe that it is only fair to extend our own invitation to the current Board; the Trust therefore makes an open offer, which will be followed up in writing, to Geoff Dunford to meet with him in the near future to discuss the Board’s plans.
