The Gas Trust has been holding back from commenting on the recent events
at Bristol Rovers, waiting to see the outcome of the discussions
between the Supporters Club and the Football Club on various matters.
However, that changed at the end of last week with the news of
the resignation of BRSC Chairman John Malyckyj.
Bristol Rovers can ill afford to lose people who have both the skills
and the dedication to take the club forward. It lost four such people
in the summer and the resignation of John M is another hammer blow
to the fortunes of the city’s oldest professional football
club.
Acting Trust Chair Gary Marks said:
“Over the past five years since the first seeds of a supporters
trust were sown at Bristol Rovers I have worked closely with John
Malyckyj on a number of issues that have affected the football club.
We have not always agreed on everything but John has always passionately
stood for what he believes is best for Bristol Rovers Football Club
and, in particular, its supporters. One cannot fail to be impressed
by the dedication and enthusiasm that John showed, and especially
how much time John gave to the well-being of Bristol Rovers.
“To lose someone of the calibre and
dedication of John Malyckyj is something that no club can afford
to lose. To see it happen at Bristol Rovers, especially coming
so soon after the departure of four directors, is nothing short
of a tragedy. I can only hope that the board of our football club
realise the folly of their actions before it is too late.”
