Relocation News

As you will no doubt be aware, the club have recently announced that Rovers will be moving to either Cheltenham Town’s Whaddon Road or Swindon Town’s County Ground while the Memorial Stadium is being redeveloped.

The Board have stated that no final decision has yet been made as the costings have not yet been finalised and talks are still going on both with the two clubs and the local police. They have also taken the step of producing a short questionnaire for supporters to fill in so that they can gauge fans’ views on each of the two options.

You can access the questionnaire by clicking here. Completed forms should be handed in at Pirate Leisure at the Memorial Stadium (stapled or clipped together if on more than one piece of paper) where they will be collected and reviewed by the club. Alternatively, the questionnaire can be edited and filled in electronically, and e-mailed as an attachment to feedback@bristolrovers.co.uk. Please put 'Relocation Survey' in the subject line to ensure it is filtered correctly. Questionnaires will also be available from Pirate Leisure on Saturday, and will be reproduced in the Lincoln City matchday programme.

Given the amount of discussion that has been taking place amongst Gasheads on this issue, we would urge all supporters to take time to fill in the survey. Having looked at it, it is fair to say that it is difficult to answer many of the questions (e.g. how happy you would be with each, how regularly you would go and how you would travel there) without a lot of additional information on things such as the likely price of match tickets and the cost of travel. However, it does represent a golden opportunity for you to let the club know what your key priorities are and to raise any concerns that you have. You will probably not get another chance so please use the opportunity.

We hope that once all of the questionnaires have been received and the information gathered that the results will be clearly communicated to supporters so that they can see that the survey has played a key role in assisting the final decision. We would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate a point that we recently made in All Ship Shape? (the quarterly Trust newsletter), namely that in order to fully consult with supporters and to obtain the buy-in that will be critical if the move is to be a success there should be a series of Q&A sessions set up in order that fans can ask members of the Board and regeneration teams questions directly about the whole redevelopment project.

In late March we wrote to Rovers Chief Executive Bill Smith to ask if he and his Regeneration team would take part in a Fans’ Forum which would provide just such an opportunity for fans to ask questions on a range of issues relating to the stadium regeneration project. It is disappointing that we have not even received the courtesy of a reply to that letter or the subsequent follow-up e-mail. We believe that such an event would provide real evidence that new chairman Ron Craig is fully committed to the pledges he made in his opening letter to supporters that he wants to see fans’ opinions funnelled directly into the heart of the club and full transparency between the club and all of its support groups.
